Plan Ahead for Those You Love

Elder Care Our practical workbook will guide you through the process of planning for the latter stages of life. It covers a variety of issues in five individual segments: Financial Needs, Medical Needs, Logistical Needs, Relational Needs, and Spiritual Needs. It will provide you with the tools and resources that you will need in order to evaluate your situation and create a plan that works best for your family.

"I initially desired to write this workbook because I observed an increase in the needs of my clients for this information. More and more "Boomers" were coming to us saying they felt caught in the middle. Their kids were in college and expenses were rising rapidly, or they had recently graduated and were having difficulty finding a job. On the other side, the Boomers' parents were living longer than expected, needing professional care, and running out of funds. Our clients were looking to us for guidance on how to avoid spending their retirement funds just to make it through this stage of life.

Then about two years ago, these issues became personal in my own life. Both my father-in-law and my father had some health concerns arise and needed more hands-on care. We faced the need to make decisions about where they would live, if they could continue to drive, who would take care of them, and more. Both were living out-of-town at the time, so that complicated the issues as well. Suddenly, what I had been helping others through became very real for me. It confirmed that this workbook needed to be written so that others could prepare for this difficult time in life.

As we seek to honor our parents (or the seniors you are assisting), how can we best help them? My desire is that after working through this resource, you will be at peace with the preparation you'll have made and with the results when you carry out your plans. Many of the discussions and decisions are not easy, but laying plans now will give you more confidence and decrease your stress level down the road when the time comes to implement your plans."
